Serengeti
conjures up a world of strange people living out strange lives, a
world rife with woman problems, booze, and references to Chicago
sports teams.
Serengeti gives new meaning to the
term "one-man band" with Dennehy (Lights, Camera, Action!).
In it, Serengeti conjures up a world of strange people living out
strange lives, a world rife with woman problems, booze, and
references to Chicago sports teams. He doesn't just voice each
character so much as step into the lives he has created, acquiring
their personas with the precision of a Hannibal Lecter criminal
profile. Previously released on Bonafyde Recordings, the new
incarnation of the album offers a truer representation of
Serengeti's original artistic vision.
As with any re-release, the fan has to
wonder whether it is worth spilling out hard-earned cash on a
product that they basically already own. Fear not, Serengeti fans,
as the new Dennehy contains seven previously unreleased
tracks. Songs appearing on the original version have been remixed
and remastered, and are all the better for it. Comparing the old to
the new side by side, one really sees just how much work went into
the second iteration of this album. "Love You But" remains one of
the most powerful tracks, as Serengeti ponders, "I love you but what
does that shit really mean?"
The final verdict: A much-improved
version of an already powerful album. B+ | Josh Vise
